EMDR therapy is a gentle and respectful process that assists trauma reprocessing.

EMDR therapy

AVAILABLE BOTH IN REGULAR SESSIONS OR INTENSIVES

If you’re struggling with unprocessed memories, emotions or feelings of the past that are causing you distress, then EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) may be for you. It is a gentle psychotherapy approach that is effective for the treatment of unprocessed trauma.

EMDR uses a technique called bilateral stimulation to activate opposite parts of the brain. Eye movements facilitate the stimulation, mimicking the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep which is the time when the mind processes recent events. In this way, EMDR can help clients reprocess trapped memories naturally by telling the brain that the information has been processed, and in time to move past the trauma experienced and live life more fully.

EMDR can be considered de-cluttering or reorganizing your brain by utilizing the mind, body and spirit’s natural, intrinsic functions.

EMDR CAN ADDRESS:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias

  • Chronic Illness and medical issues

  • Depression

  • Disturbing memories

  • Eating disorders, body dysmorphic disorders

  • Complicated Grief and loss

  • Chronic Pain

  • Performance anxiety

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Unprocessed trauma

  • Self-esteem, perfectionism, shame

  • Stress-related issues

  • Sleep disturbance

  • Addictions

  • Violence and abuse

  • Birth trauma

  • Self-sabotage and procrastination

What can you expect?

EMDR therapy will begin when I have a good understanding of your history and we’ve decided on the goals for your treatment. We’ll discuss what you can expect as you engage in the therapy and how you can manage your emotions during the treatment so that you feel safe as we address trauma.

During treatment, I’ll be here to support you as you approach your memories by recalling sights, sounds and feelings in the body. As you work through them, you’ll engage in eye movements and share your thoughts until you no longer feel distressed at the recollection of them. Then we’ll move towards strengthening your newfound feelings surrounding the memories.

If we haven’t fully worked through your memories at the end of the session, I’ll offer some guidance on how you contain your memories effectively until the next session.

The benefits of EMDR

EMDR is an effective way to approach trauma over a short period of time in several standard weekly sessions instead of spending several months of processing trauma, reliving experiences and facing symptoms of trauma recollection.

Although there is a larger cost initially, the shorter duration of treatment typically result in savings over time. You also won’t have to face wait times since EMDR therapy is relatively quick for all of my clients.

Studies show that EMDR is considered more effective than some traditional trauma therapies and the benefits of EMDR typically persist over time. Research has shown that relapses and problems following treatment are less likely to arise in the time following treatment.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REGULAR EMDR AND AN EMDR INTENSIVE?

An EMDR intensive is a half or full day of treatment that can be repeated over several days for accelerated healing. Regular EMDR is also effective but is offered within the time constraints of a regular therapy session.

Given that several hours or consecutive days of EMDR can happen in an intensive, this approach offers quicker results and ensures that you won’t have to continue revisiting your traumatic experiences any longer than is absolutely necessary.

Individual 60 min session - $160

Individual 75 min session - $200

4 hour intensive - $1300

6 hour intensive - $1500

90 minute consultation included
(for intensives only)

  • An intensive can require up to 5 full days of treatment. A typical schedule is three hours of therapy in the morning, a one hour lunch break, followed by three additional hours of therapy. You have the opportunity to take breaks if you feel you need them.

  • A full day can seem like a long time, however, EMDR is a very gentle therapy, and typically isn’t as overwhelming as traditional talk therapy. You can expect to feel more relief as the day goes on and you process the heaviness of the past.

However, if you prefer two half sessions instead of one full day, I can arrange that for you.

  • It’s efficient. EMDR most outstanding benefit is that it is a very efficient therapy that can help you process trauma in a fraction of the time it would typically take to address in standard therapy.

We’ll finish sooner. Since intensives happen in longer sessions, you’ll have the benefit of closing those chapters of your life without revising them repeatedly over weeks or months of time.

We’ll stay focused. The length of an EMDR session helps us to stay focused on your areas of concern without being distracted by other life events or experiences that could happen between sessions that are spread out over an extended period of time.

It’s easier to commit to. It may be easier for your schedule to accommodate one or two full days instead of ongoing sessions that can be disruptive to your daily routine.

  • Everyone’s experiences and needs are different. For some, the pace of EMDR may be too intense. We’ll talk about what you’d like to achieve in our initial consultation so that you can understand the pros and cons of EMDR intensives and make an informed decision on whether or not to move ahead with the treatment.

    1. We’ll book a consultation to discuss your expectations and needs to see if it is a good fit for you.

    2. If you’d like to go ahead, a non-refundable deposit is required to book into my schedule.

    3. I’ll send you intake forms prior to your session so that I can tailor the treatment to suit your needs.

    4. Final payment for the intensive is due one week before your session.
